New Residence Hall ! Living in Style

New Residence Hall 2012-13, hopefully would be the best year of my life. The exciting prospect of this place makes you feel energized and growth of your social circle increasing exponentially makes you feel that you are in the perfect place to be in Montreal.
I exactly remember when I reached Noville Residence in the morning of 25th Aug'2012 at 7 am where I met Mr. Tahir Ali Qureshi sitting at the front desk. I was really exhausted when I reached Montreal after 40 hours of travelling with 100 kgs of luggage.

The hectic flight certainly did not allow me to enjoy the spacious double-spaced room with private bathroom. As soon as I kept my luggage I went to the service point to make my student Id along with my friend back from high school. The Rez Wars', Frosh, Orientation week and meeting new friends at the cafeteria are the vivid memories of the first 2 weeks in Montreal.

I live at Floor 15, my floor fellow Catilin F is pursuing nursing degree at McGill University. She is a great person and very helpful to me. So as a whole I have liked the experience of New Residence Hall and I really hope that I take some great memories back home when I return to Pakistan in summers!

Thankyou for your precious time.

Goodbye.

New Year Resolutions!

Nabeel Godil's New Year Resolutions.

Well, I'm not of a resolution guy, writing resolutions on a piece of paper but just assuming that I'm emulating someone.

My top ten resolutions for the year would be :

2.) Wake up early in the mornings before sunrise.
3.) Be a more responsible citizen.
4.) Never ever be late in classes.
5.) Always wash my socks.
6.) Will try to be bilingual to seek jobs in montreal.
7.) Keeping in touch with my old friends since they get annoyed for not being in touch with them.
8.) Have a habit of taking break-fast.
9.) Practice sports-spirit
10) Should learn to fight the competition more effectively in all aspects of life.

Thanks!

Exchange at UPenn!

Desautels Faculty of Management is offering an exchange to UPenn which is a healthy sign for students across the board. While students working hard on their academics 1 semester at UPenn would give them enough confidence to seek into US grad schools for the upcoming years.
UPenn's Wharton School of Business has created some amazing business leaders such as Warren Buffett. The rigorous addendum and the core values of the institution is what really strengthens the bond between McGill and UPenn enhances the values supported by both of the universities.

Two of my friends are studying at UPenn and I really hope that I score a good CGPA in-order to spend atleast 1 semester at Wharton to fulfill my passion. Although Wharton might be little expensive for me but I believe that would be an opportunity of a lifetime.

Wish me luck :)

Exams and Stress!

Its been 2 weeks that I haven't slept properly. The stress, anxiety and the tension is getting my focus off from the studies even. The projects due with the exams deadlines coming closer is what really tests your time-management but I guess that's what polishes a student with his time management skills.
The time-constraints in the corporate world parallel with the time-constraints an undergrad undergoes and gives you the perfect ingredients to develop a successful career. Since I'm a Pakistani and I come from a British system of education, I'm accustomed to the last minute studies which is wrong on my part but I have realized that the North American system of education compels you to review your weekly lectures so that you can keep up with the readings too.

My exam schedule is as follows:
1.) 6th Dec
2.) 14th Dec
3.)  17th Dec
4.)  18th Dec
5.) 19th Dec

I'm really working hard on these papers and I hope all of my colleagues do well in their exams and return home at the eve of Christmas happily. Peace.

Have a lovely weekend!

Charismatic Girl of Swat! Inspiration for all.

Malala Yousufzai is an education activist from the village of Mingora in the Swat District of Pakistan's

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. She's know for her education movement along the northern areas of

Pakistan. On 9 October 2012, Yousafzai was shot in the head and neck in an assassination attempt by

Taliban gunmen while returning home on a school bus. In the days immediately following the

attack, she remained unconscious and in critical condition, but later her condition improved

enough for her to be sent to a hospital in the United Kingdom for intensive rehabilitation. On 12

October, a group of 50 Islamic clerics in Pakistan issued a fatwa against those who tried to kill her,

but the Taliban reiterated its intent to kill Yousafzai and her father, Ziauddin.

Her BBC blogging identity was being revealed in articles in 2009.She also began appearing on television to publicly advocate for female education.

The day following the attack, Yousafzai was still being treated in the intensive care unit of the military

hospital in Peshawar, where her part of the skull was removed to allow room  for the brain to swell.

Before the surgery, Yousafzai was moving her hands and feet, which suggested there was no

paralysis,  and she verbally responded to a teacher immediately after the shooting.A plane was being

held on standby at nearby  to move her out of Pakistan for further treatment if  necessary.

The whole of Pakistan is praying for her recovery. The student societies of prestigious universities in

Pakistan namely LUMS and IBA organized proper praying sessions for her speedy recovery. And we

all hope that she gets well soon.

Earth Matters : Sandy is the Challenge!

Hurricane Sandy, the largest Atlantic hurricane in diameter on record, with its winds stretching about 1,100 miles from end to end,was a late-season tropical cyclone that affected the Greater Antilles, the Bahamas, the Eastern United States, and Eastern Canada.
At least 119 people have been confirmed killed across the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Canada, and the United States, as a result of the storm.
Mayor Bloomberg announced New York City public schools will be closed Tuesday, October 30 and Wednesday October 3. NYU have cancelled all classes and campus activities for October 30. The New York Stock Exchange was closed for trading for two days, the first weather closure of the exchange since 1985.It was also the first two-day weather closure since the Great Blizzard of 1888.

President Obama approved disaster declarations for New York and New Jersey, making them eligible for federal assistance for rebuilding. “All of us have been shocked by the force of mother nature,” said the president, who plans to visit New Jersey on Wednesday. He promised “all available resources” for recovery efforts.
Hurricane Sandy has done damage on a very a large scale but the process of recovery has been paced up.As it can be seen,  New York region began the daunting process on Tuesday of rebuilding after a storm that remade the landscape.
I personally appeal to everyone who is reading my blog to donate generously on http://www.globalgiving.org/ or any other forum. Each and every penny will contribute towards the rebuilding process.

Traders vs Government!

Traders and businessman have ‘postponed’ the protests plan for November on the  assurance of Governor of Karachi, Dr.Ishratul Ibad that law and order will be improved and have decided to review their decision in the first week of December. This was announced by Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Haroon Agar following meetings of their and FPCCI delegations with Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad at the Governor’s House on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Governor Ishratul Ibad khan is on an official trip to UK to meet his counterpart as well as some important members of European Union (EU).

Traders who came out strongly to the government to provide them with adequate amount of security, incentives to the lower-level workers with improved transportation, government schemes and improved health system.
One could only possibly hope that the business-tycoons can put some pressure on the government to fulfill the necessities of people in terms of law and order so that in turn the revenue cycle keeps on rotating.

Education System in Pakistan!

Education in Pakistan is overseen by the government's Ministry of Education and the provincial governments, whereas the federal government mostly assists in curriculum development, accreditation and in the financing of research. The article 25-A of Constitution of Pakistan obligates the state to provide free and compulsory quality education to children of the age group 5 to 16 years. “The State shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of five to sixteen years in such a manner as may be determined by law”.
The education system in Pakistan is generally divided into five levels: primary (grades one through five); middle (grades six through eight); high (grades nine and ten, leading to the Secondary School Certificate or SSC); intermediate (grades eleven and twelve, leading to a Higher Secondary (School) Certificate or HSC); and university programs leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees.
The dilemma of the education system in Pakistan is that there are several boards working simultaneously thus eliminating the uniformity of judging one’s academics. Students wishing to interchange between different boards have a lot of problems converting their GPAs, Mark-sheets which adds to the conflict between boards. Another problem while the students who wish to go abroad need to get their confirmation from their respective boards to send to different universities which is really time-consuming and really difficult to send within the given deadlines. Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Sialkot, Rawalpindi being the top educated cities shoots up the literacy rate for Pakistan. Here are a few statistical data which I would like to share with my viewers:-
